Dessert Recipes : Tan Slices
Pastry and Crumbles
Six ounces of butter softened (do not melt)
Ten ounces of flour
Four ounces of white sugar
One tsp of vanilla
Filling
One half a can of sweetened condensed milk
Two Tbl of golden syrup
Two ounces of butter
One tsp of vanilla
Put softened butter and sugar in a medium bowl. Cream them with your mixer or by hand. Make SURE the butter is soft--but not melted--or your mixture will be too gummy. Add vanilla. Mix. Add the flour and mix. The mixture should be fairly crumbly but easy to press into a crust.
Use a 9" springform pan. Grease the bottom. Press three quarters of the mixture into the bottom of the pan. That forms your crust.
In a small sauce pan mix the condensed milk, syrup, butter and vanilla. Heat on medium just until it melts. You can do this in your microwave too if you prefer. Pour this warm mixture over the crust.
Take the remaining pastry mix and crumble it up. Sprinkle the crumbles on top. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. The sugars will caramelize and the pastry will become lightly golden. Let cool. Run a sharp knife around the sides of the pastry to loosen it and then unlock your pan and remove the outer ring. You can display on a nice platter. Slice into triangles (pie slices). 2" - 3" is plenty per person. This is one delightful, rich and calorie-laden dessert.
Enjoy!
